A Chance To Relive
Being a summer holiday, I headed for Santa Cruz surfing museum for a nice and relaxing moment. After all, one’s got to have a nice time sometime. At least I had some time to myself with no Mr. Tomsford, our supervisor at my workplace sending me to deliver his papers to a certain firm after every hour. As they say, work with no play makes Jack a dull boy.
The journey to the haven was very tiresome. However, on my way there, the breathtaking scenery along the road was such an eye-catching sight. If only beings would have a strong conscience about nature and conserve it, then the whole land would be covered in green and such cases as droughts would be unheard of.
After a long 3-hour drive, I finally reached my much anticipated destination thanks to my continued savings I had collected over the last two years. I had accompanied other local tourists who had also scheduled their visit to be that same day as me. I was finally living my dream. The reception was awesome. Its highly trained team awaited us at the entrance with bouquets of beautiful flowers handing each to us as they smiled.
I, being always the slow one was the last to alight from the company bus and was obviously at the end of the file leading towards the building. I really needed those flowers so I really prayed hard that they would not run out. At least I would have something to take back to my girlfriend once I get back. But no, they were fresh flowers so they would actually wilt in no time. Poor me.
We were then handed two tour guides to take us round the museum. We started with the artifacts section. Oh my! The place was epic. Items that were first used in the past had been neatly and carefully placed on shelves to avoid breakage as they were really fragile. Large notices of ‘DO NOT TOUCH’ were placed on each artifact. The guide then informed us that this was to prevent the tourists’ interference with the artifacts as they had a higher chance of breaking hence not giving the future generation a chance to also get to view them.
We were then led to the books section where lots of surf books were neatly arranged on the shelves. They were all in different sizes and colors. Such books could come in handy whenever one wanted to go sit by the shore and have such an amazing view of the sea while sipping a glass of cocktail. Some of the best surfing photographs were hung in the walls with such magnificence. One of the best photographs that actually interested me was one that was taken of a surfer while on air.
I even wanted to buy it. However, this was just an exhibition center. Besides, I had no money at all. Remember, I am just a messenger who really dreaded of my boss’ phone call despite me being on a holiday. ‘Hello? Something came up and needs to be delivered urgently’ would be his pick up line. In fact my girlfriend had threatened to sue me for breaching the conjugal rights now that I was on duty every single time.
Finally we were led to where the surfboards were kept this time by the sea. The building was so close that the waters kept slapping its base. That is where I got to see the largest surfboard I had ever seen. Outside, cheerful surfers thronged the seaside with their beautiful surfboards. What envied me most was the gentlemen’s body physiques since most of them were topless.
What did they do to gain such bodies?
I convinced myself that I too would consider that and gain such a body. I am straight though. Take note that I left a girlfriend back home. Good heavens! Thank God I had not brought her along lest I go back home single.
However, what annoyed me most was lack of eatery points at the seashore. There were just drinks and the way I possess such an insatiable appetite. I needed heavy food not the snacks that would get me going back for more. My only consolation was, atleast we were done with our tour and could get the chance of getting back home and have some food. I promised myself that the next time I would be back here will be surfing with my wife hopefully. Where there is a will, there is a way.
